TUTORIAL: Family Memories Ornament

I love ornaments. I especially love ornaments that have some sort of meaning behind them. I am so excited for the ornament that I created this year. Here is what I did:

STEP ONE: Obtain a clear, glass ornament. The size really depends on your preference.

STEP TWO: Tear or cut strips of paper about a pinky's width. (I know that is not an exact measurement, but you know what I mean right?) Then, tear your strips into 3 inch sections.

STEP THREE: Have everyone in your family right down their favorite memory of the year. It doesn't even have to be a memory. I can be a funny word, idea, hope, wish, etc... Whatever you want.

STEP FOUR: Roll the paper tightly onto a pencil. If you want them smaller, you can always make it tighter by rolling them with your fingers.

STEP FIVE: Take the top off of your ornament by pulling it gently.

STEP SIX: Slide each of the papers in until it looks a little like this...

Ta-Da! You can stop here, but there is a bit more if you want to keep going.... :)

STEP SEVEN: Print out vinyl lettering and attach to ornament. This is kind of a MAJOR bugger. It is a wee bit tricky to add the lettering to a curved surface.

STEP EIGHT: Attach coordinating ribbon, raffia, hook, etc...

STEP NINE: Hang your memory ornament on the tree. I can't wait to open it up every year and read our memories. This is definitely going to be one of our new family traditions!

***My friends, please feel free to make this for your personal use. I would be thrilled if this was apart of your family, too. Please do not sell this idea, however, as I am going to list it in my etsy store. THANK YOU!!**

  7. I love this idea! My MIL had family ornaments every year, but with 4 kids it started to take over the tree. This way, there's just one per year. Love it!!!

  9. That is a really cute idea. I love it! I might do that with my kids to remember my dad who passed away a few years ago. It would be fun to put our memories of him in an ornament.

    Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving!
